(NEXSTAR) - Danny Kass is returning to Italy as the head coach of the U.S. halfpipe team to help others reach the Olympic heights he's already achieved. Kass first gained fame when he won a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where his U.S. Winter Olympics team swept the podium for the first time in 56 years. He added a second silver at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Italy, further solidifying his place in Olympic snowboarding history. Kass' experience as an athlete will inform his approach as a coach. "I'm really excited to get to return to Italy where I kind of peaked the podium also, you know," Kass said, referencing his own Olympic journey to Italy as a competitor. "Twenty years ago, I was there knowing exactly what these riders are going through, dealing with those same pressures and to get to take a lot of that experience from my riding career into the coaching world is really fun," he said during a recent interview. One of the most rewarding aspects for Kass as a coach is witnessing his athletes achieve their goals. "It's definitely one of the biggest rewards is watching them accomplish their goals and then also having fun doing it," he added. Team USA will aim to crowd the podium again this Winter in Kass' return to Italy. All facts in this report were gathered by journalists employed by Nexstar.
