MILAN, Italy (NEXSTAR) – Thursday was a huge day for Team USA, with multiple gold medals and outstanding performances. The U.S. women's hockey team ultimately continued its domination, defeating rival Canada in overtime in the gold medal game, and the U.S. women's figure skaters brought a long medal-drought to a triumphant end. There were tense moments during the U.S.-Canada gold medal matchup as the U.S. trailed by one, but Captain Hilary Knight hit a record-setting goal to tie the game. Then the game went into overtime. It wasn't long after that Megan Keller shot the winning goal – pushing the U.S. to a 2-1 win and taking back the gold from Team Canada. When Knight was asked if it would be her last goal, she said, "We'll see." Three U.S. figure skaters also took the ice in the free skate for the women's individual competition. But it was Alysa Liu who took home the gold medal, ending a two-decade absence from the podium for the U.S. women's figure skating team. It had been even longer since a U.S. women's figure skater won gold, not since Sarah Hughes was the last U.S. women figure skater to take home the gold in 2002. After struggling through the short program on Tuesday, Amber Glenn nailed the free skate, but fell short of the podium, coming in fifth. Meanwhile, Isabeau Levito, in her Olympic debut, placed twelfth. Earlier in the evening, speed skater Jordan Stolz expected to take a third gold, missed it by milliseconds, instead grabbing the silver, which the Wisconsin athlete said he was very happy to have. China got the gold and Netherlands got the bronze. The U.S. men's hockey team hits the ice tomorrow in the semifinals, playing Slovakia.
