(NEXSTAR) - Having competed in nearly every major skating competition except the Olympics, Camden Pulkinen is now focused on taking the final step in his career. He aims to earn medals for the United States on the world stage. It would be the culmination of a long journey from sunny Arizona. "The next step is how do I go to the Olympics and represent Team USA. How do I put myself in a position to earn medals for Team USA?" Pulkinen said of his Olympic dream. Pulkinen's passion for skating began in his hometown of Scottsdale, where he fell in love with the ice at a young age. Now, as a seasoned competitor, he's motivated by the sacrifices his family has made to support his career. "My family sacrificed so much for me. They've been in my corner and supported me every step of the way," Pulkinen shared. In addition to his family's encouragement, Pulkinen finds motivation in the camaraderie and competition among fellow skaters. "I love skating with a lot of great guys out there. They're just such noble athletes that even the skater before me I like to watch them and just like cheer them on cheer them on, and it really amps me up, makes me super excited to go out there and deliver," he said. A signature element of Pulkinen's performances is his triple axel, a move he perfected at just 16 years old. "I just love triple axels. There's that one thing that feels like nothing else in the world," he explained. He's hoping the exhilaration he finds in his routines helps lead him to the thrill of representing Team USA.
