(NEXSTAR) -- Love is in the air at the Winter Olympics. Nexstar’s Jack Doles caught up with some of the athlete couples who are celebrating the day of love while competing on one of the biggest stages in the world. When Madison Chock and Evan Bates skate together, it doesn't take long to see their connection is palpable. On and off the ice, their love for one another runs deep. "Skating is finite and will end some day. But this relationship will go on forever,” says Bates. When you train and travel together, and share so many common experiences, bonds tend to run a little deeper. Nowhere is that more evident than the freestyle aerial team. "Sharing those moments, I think really connects [you to] each other,” says Dehlinger. “Being scared over triple back flips really bonds you and makes you talk about things a little deeper than surface stuff.” Meanwhile, Chris Lillis and Winter Vinecki are also a couple and four years ago, Lillis teamed with Ashley Caldwell and Justin Schoenfeld to win the aerials team gold in Beijing. Now Ashley and Justin are married and have their first child. Even athletes in different sports have felt the wrath of Cupid's arrow. Hockey player Hillary Knight and speedskater Brittney Bowe started dating during the Beijing games. Four years later, they’re still going strong: As athletes and as a couple. "Whenever you're with elite level athletes, you kind of think alike, and approach things differently in the best ways,” says Knight. So as the world celebrates sport through the Olympic games in Milan Cortina and throughout Italy, athletes are taking the time to smell the roses and celebrate love on Valentine’s Day.
