(NEXSTAR) – If you don't have the time (or the talent) to bake a pie from scratch for Thanksgiving, follow the wise words of Ina Garten: "store-bought is fine." Grocery stores, many of which are open for limited hours on Thanksgiving, have pies stocked in the bakery sections and frozen aisles. If you want to impress your family without all the home cooking, you may want to seek out a few stores in particular. A number of food publications have done the dirty delicious work and taste tested grocery store pies ahead of the holidays. One of the all-around favorites for apple pie is Whole Foods. The East Bay Times calls it a "baking triumph" that is "hard to stop eating." It is one of the pricier grocery store options, however, retailing at $13.99. A better value can be found at Costco, which sells a massive 4 lb. 11 oz. apple pie. It's a dollar cheaper than Whole Foods' and pounds heavier. Taste testers at Food Republic like the sugar-dusted crust and stewed-apple filling of the Costco apple pie. If you're willing to do a little baking, multiple food writers compliment Marie Callender's frozen option. Sporked food writers especially like the Dutch Apple Pie, which has a streusel topping, making it a sort of hybrid between apple pie and apple crumble. When it comes to pumpkin pie, Marie Callender's isn't as popular with multiple food publications. Costco, on the other hand, scores better. The Costco pumpkin pie is a favorite for its low price point – and once again, it's huge. Taste testers praise it for its balance of flavor and fresh taste. Whole Foods pumpkin pie is also a favorite for staffers at the Austin American-Statesman, tying with Costco in the newspaper's first round of voting. Whole Foods also takes best overall in Delish's ranking. If you're more into pecan pie for Thansgiving, Mashed has you covered. The outlet says Costco and Marie Callender's – both fan favorites in other categories – also make a tasty pecan pie. Sporked, meanwhile, endorses Kroger's store brand option.
