(NEXSTAR) – Thousands of outage reports from TikTok and Facebook users poured in Tuesday afternoon, according to monitoring site DownDetector. Problems affecting some TikTokers appear to have begun around 5:30 a.m. PDT and grown steadily throughout the day. The company said on X that "an issue with an Oracle data center is impacting some parts of the TikTok U.S. user experience," adding that creators could experience lags in posting content. Oracle confirmed the news in a statement, saying: The spike started around 1 p.m. PDT, with a number of users posting images on social media showing the following message that replaced their Facebook page: "Account temporarily unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes." Others said the received a message telling them that they were "temporarily blocked" with a prompt to reload the page. Users of parent company Meta's Facebook Messenger and Instagram also reported issues with similar, albeit smaller, spikes that peaked just after 2 p.m. As of 2:45 p.m., Facebook's status page still listed "high disruptions" affecting ad creation and editing, delivery and reporting, but there was no direct mention of personal account pages. Shortly after, outage reports started to subside. In separate announcements between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. PDT, Meta said that outages affecting the three ads-related categories had been resolved. Nexstar has reached out to Meta for additional information. This is a developing story.
