(NEXSTAR) -- For Chloe Kim, winning isn't everything — so she's surprised by how surprised everyone is that she didn't win gold in Milan. "I feel like people are saying it's so crazy that I finished second. But I'm like, I've gotten second a lot of times. I've gotten third a lot. There are a lot of times I haven't even got on the podium," Kim told Nexstar's Jack Doles. She secured a podium spot for herself when she executed a Cab double-cork 1080 (two flips with a twist) in her first run and she did that while competing with a torn labrum in her left shoulder. Meanwhile, 17 year-old Gown Choi, of South Korea, whom Kim mentored, went on to win gold, which Kim says felt "special" to get to see. Kim was bidding to become the first snowboarder to win gold in three consecutive Olympics. Despite the games going a different way, Kim says she's quite happy with the results. "Second, third, fourth, that doesn't really matter to me," she said. "All I know is that I fought so hard to get there."
