(NEXSTAR) – Bad Bunny stole the show on Sunday with a Super Bowl halftime performance that was (almost) entirely in Spanish. Many of those who didn't understand what he was singing are now looking to learn – at least according to Duolingo. The language learning app said it saw a jump in Spanish learning activity during the halftime show. Duolingo shared data with Nexstar that showed an initial drop in activity on the app as people tuned in to watch the big game. But after Bad Bunny took the stage, Spanish learners logged on en masse. The app says the spike represented a 35% increase over normal Spanish language learners. It's too soon to say whether the initial interest will last. "Is this what a one-night stand feels like?" the app joked on social media. Bad Bunny's performance was only 13 minutes, but it captured the attention of millions. Fans of the artist who live in Puerto Rico were especially moved by the show. “I thought it was phenomenal that Bad Bunny brought all Latinos together in one place and represented them all equally,” said Carlos Ayala, 36, of San Juan. “It’s an important moment for Latino culture.” Luke Lavanway, a 35-year-old who lives in New York but was vacationing in Puerto Rico to escape the ongoing cold snap, said he had no problem with a halftime show in Spanish. “That’s part of us,” he said. “That’s what makes us great, and we should just enjoy it.” The Associated Press contributed to this report.
