(NEXSTAR) -- The Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center will officially open south of Atlanta in May, providing the first dedicated facility for the country's national teams. The training center is situated on a 200-acre site and features a combination of indoor and outdoor training spaces. While the U.S. has fielded national soccer teams for more than a century, the organization has never previously owned a dedicated facility of this scale for its players. The site includes 17 outdoor playing surfaces featuring grass, turf, and sand, as well as 200,000 square feet of indoor training facilities. U.S. Soccer officials described the expansive complex as "the U.S. way personified." "Whether you're someone who wants to be a world-class referee or wants to be a coach, or you're someone who's a fan and you want to be able to really feel like you're a part of something special here at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center, we want to be very intentional around creating those experiences for everyone who cares about the sport," said JT Batson, the CEO of U.S. Soccer. The training center is designed to support the development of soccer players at all levels to progress through the national program. The facility is also meant to serve as a hub for the broader soccer community, including coaches, referees, and fans. Organization officials intend for the center to be a permanent home where current, future, and former players can feel connected to the sport in the United States. The U.S. men's national team will use the facility to prepare for the upcoming World Cup when the center opens in May. All facts in this report were gathered by journalists employed by Nexstar.
