(NEXSTAR) – Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with DUI after he was involved in a rollover crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, Martin County Sheriff's Office officials said during a news conference. Woods, 50, was driving in a dark-colored Land Rover behind a pickup truck that was pulling cleaning equipment, when the truck slowed down to pull off the road shortly before 2 p.m. The Land Rover tried to overtake the truck but clipped the back end of the trailer, listed and rolled, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said. No one was hurt in the crash, which happened not far from Woods' home on Jupiter Island. Budensiek said Woods, who crawled out of the passenger door, "did exemplify signs of impairment." Woods agreed to a breathalyzer and showed no signs of alcohol intoxication, but after refusing a urinalysis he was booked at the Martin County Jail, according to the sheriff's office. He was charged with two misdemeanors: DUI resulting in property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Woods, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon a year ago, also underwent his seventh back surgery in October 2025. For weeks there had been speculation about whether or not the multi-time Masters winner would be healthy enough to compete in Augusta this year, a decision he was still mulling. On Thursday, President Trump claimed during an interview with Fox News that "he will be there, but he won't be playing in it." Woods was also involved in a serious car crash in the Palos Verdes area of California in 2021 that left him with multiple broken bones in his leg, which had to be surgically repaired. Authorities ultimately ruled that excessive speed was the primary cause of the violent wreck, during which Woods' SUV crashed into a tree and came to rest on its side at the bottom of an embankment. He also was arrested on a DUI charge in 2017 when south Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car that was parked awkwardly with damage to the driver's side. Woods said he had taken a bad mix of painkillers. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Woods won his fifth Masters, and 15th major, in 2019. He has 82 wins on the PGA Tour, tied for the all-time record with Sam Snead. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
