MILAN (NEXSTAR) -- The San Siro stadium, home to AC Milan and Inter Milan, is scheduled to be demolished in the coming years, but before then, the historic stadium will play host to the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, February 6. "The Temple of Football," as it is known, first opened its doors in 1926 and has played host to two FIFA World Cups and a long list of international tournaments in its storied history. With a capacity of around 76,000 spectators, the iconic Italian stadium will celebrate its centennial with one of the biggest events, when athletes from all competing nations will parade around the stadium to welcome the world to the Winter Olympics. The opening ceremony will feature performances by Andrea Bocelli and Mariah Carey. San Siro will be demolished in 2031 after its replacement is completed, which is expected to be in 2030.
